Lucid Dreaming Gone Wrong

DARQ is an adventure game created by Unfold Games. The game features traveling inside the dream world that got haunted. Players can manipulate the whole world and rotate the terrain to any direction, and the goal is to escape the dream turned nightmare world and wake up.

Drifting To Sleep

DARQ takes place in the mind of Lloyd. The boy becomes aware that he is dreaming after laying himself on bed and drifts away to a strange location. His dream turns into a nightmare, as hostile beings that looked like mannequins attempt to end him. Players have to wake up from their nightmare by escaping. They have to travel across the nightmare world reminiscent of movies directed by Tim Burton. It has a dark and gothic visual with monochromatic colors. The game sound consists of ambient noise from the environment, which creates a haunting and brooding atmosphere that reflects the game’s overall theme. The terrain rotates every time Lloyd reaches a ledge. It lets players see and explore in a new perspective—they can walk on walls and ceilings but the perspective still follows where Lloyd is standing. Some locations allow the players to rotate the world’s position to find new areas and puzzles. The game has simple puzzles to solve, with each puzzle revealing a new location, opening any machinery, or giving key items. Key items are scattered around the game that can activate machines or unlock doors—some of them reusable for other machines or contraptions. Everything in this game has a pattern that players can take advantage of. Enemies have telegraphed patterns and players can avoid them. There are only 7 chapters in the game but the puzzles, stealth, and chase portions give hours of challenge and thrill. Hardcore players and completionists can find secrets within the game.

Waking Up From Nightmare

DARQ offers a scary but enjoyable enough experience. Players can feel the horror theme from the visuals to the ambient sounds. The puzzles, rotating terrain and hostiles keep players on the run for hours. It’s short but entertaining enough for casual players. The more serious players can try finding all secrets in the dream world.
